Coming from the Monga collection in Verona, the biblical theme is declined in an eighteenth-century sense, exalting the youthfulness of the characters depicted: in the painting, for Professor Sergio Marinelli, “the world of Balestra [Rotari’s master] is transposed into the sweetest and most sentimental Arcadia.”
