Pier Dandini

Oil on canvas

Measurements: 54.5 × 78 cm.

On the back, there is a label for the First Pistoia Provincial Exhibition July-September 1929, Sacred Art Section, indicating the collection of Giovanni Mazzei.

In this pair of canvases, the theme, which had such good fortune among Caravaggio and his ilk, of the confrontation between the horror of the enemy’s severed head and the exhibited and shameless youth of the biblical hero and heroine is resolved in elegant painting, graceful in its coloristic accents and crackling draperies-a taste, that of the late Medici, which opens up to the eighteenth century.

The works are accompanied by a study by Professor Francesca Baldassarri.
